The verified video list
Every URL below was resolved from a live web search, then fetched to confirm its title, channel and runtime — none are reconstructed from memory. Durations are measured, not quoted. If a link rots, open an issue; do not guess a replacement ID.
Read this before you press play: Convex's API has moved. Several of these videos are
from 2024–mid-2025 and use the older single-argument document API (ctx.db.get(id),
ctx.db.patch(id, {...})). The current docs show a table-name-first form
(ctx.db.get("tasks", id), ctx.db.patch("tasks", id, {...})). Watch the videos for the
shape of the workflow; take the syntax from api-cheatsheet.md,
which was written against the live docs. This gap is the single most common source of
"why doesn't the tutorial code compile" confusion, and noticing it is itself a Day 2 lesson.
#Tier 1 — Concept first (watch before writing any code)
| Video | Channel | Length | Why it earns the slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| The bare minimum you need to know about Convex | Convex | 10:30 | Framed for someone whose coding agent is already emitting Convex code and is throwing words like "query", "mutation", "action" at them. The fastest possible orientation. |
| What is Convex & Why Should You Care? | Convex | 17:38 | The "why not just Postgres + an ORM + WebSockets" argument. Watch this one skeptically — Day 1 asks you to write down what it is actually claiming. |
| The Ultimate Convex Crash Course | Convex (Oct 2025) | 11:29 | The most current single overview of the core primitives. Newest of the overview videos, so its syntax is the closest to today's docs. |
#Tier 2 — Hands on the keyboard
| Video | Channel | Length | Why it earns the slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Ultimate Convex Beginner Tutorial — Part 1 | Convex (Jun 2025) | 8:16 | Builds a live chat app. The reactivity moment — two browser windows, no WebSocket code — lands here. |
| Part 2 — Actions | Convex (Jun 2025) | 4:58 | External API calls and the scheduler. This is where the query/mutation/action split stops being trivia and starts being a design constraint. |
| Part 3 — Scale | Convex (Jul 2025) | 5:24 | Getting the app production-ready. Pairs with Day 7. |
| The Complete Convex Crash Course | Web Dev Cody (Dec 2024) | 38:34 | The pragmatic outsider's take — a working developer's actual setup workflow rather than a vendor walkthrough. Oldest video here; expect the pre-table-name API. |
#Tier 3 — Full-stack builds (watch after you can write a query unaided)
| Video | Channel | Length | Why it earns the slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build your own SaaS Starter Kit with Next.js, Convex & Clerk | Artem Lazarev (Jul 2025) | 50:42 | The auth-shaped hole in every toy tutorial. Companion repo: artem-lazarev/elite-next-clerk-convex-starter. |
| Fullstack app with Next.js, Convex, ShadCN | Aditya Singh — Codes | 59:53 | Auth + CRUD wired into a real component library, which is what the stack looks like in practice. |
#Tier 4 — After the bootcamp
| Video | Channel | Length | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner Tips and Tricks to The Pit of Success with Convex | Convex | 4:56 | Habits that keep a Convex codebase healthy. Much more useful once you've made the mistakes yourself. |
| Convex Beginner playlist | Convex | — | The maintained sequence; check it for anything newer than this repo. |
| @convex-dev | Convex | — | Source of truth for new releases. |
#How this list was chosen
Five filters, applied in order:
- Resolvable. Every URL was opened and its title, channel and runtime read back from the page. Titles alone are not evidence a video exists.
- Recency-weighted. Convex ships fast. A 2024 video is still useful for workflow and misleading for syntax, so it is labelled rather than dropped.
- One primary per concept. A second video on the same topic is procrastination with good posture. Alternatives are listed only where the teaching angle genuinely differs (vendor walkthrough vs. working developer).
- Build-shaped over talk-shaped. Beyond the concept tier, a video only makes the list if something gets built in it.
- Verifiable companion repo where one exists. You should be able to diff your code against something.
#What is deliberately missing
No paid courses, no "Convex vs Firebase in 2026" reaction content, and no video that is primarily an ad read with a tutorial attached. Also missing: anything about Convex's AI agent components — that is a real and growing part of the stack, but it is a bad second thing to learn, and this bootcamp stops at the point where you could pick it up yourself.
