How do I remove leaked content from TikTok?

TikTok has its own copyright route: a web form, or the same report inside the app. Its policy says a report needs all the information the form asks for, and that leaving something out may limit what it can investigate.

Before you file

TikTok encourages rights holders to contact the user first for a quick resolution. With a stolen sexual clip or a hostile account I wouldn't, and the policy offers the form either way.

What happens after a report

If the video is removed, TikTok tells the uploader through an in-app notification. They can appeal with a counter-notification, and TikTok says that appeal, with the uploader's contact details, may be forwarded to you. Outside the EU, the content may go back up if TikTok finds it doesn't infringe or no court action is reported. The decision is TikTok's. See what a counter-notice does.

Accounts that keep infringing may be banned, severe cases at once, and TikTok says it may stop them opening new ones. So if one account is behind several uploads, report each one.

When copyright isn't the right claim

TikTok's Community Guidelines generally don't allow adult nudity or sexual activity, with limited exceptions for things like documentaries and art. A clip like that can be reported as a guideline violation whoever owns it. Impersonation also falls under its deceptive-behavior rules: see fake accounts.

The US TAKE IT DOWN Act gives a separate route for intimate images posted without consent, on public platforms built mainly around user content. That description seems to fit TikTok, though that's my reading, not a ruling.

Videos that only advertise a leak

Some videos show nothing of yours and just point viewers to a leak page. Taking down the video leaves that page standing, so it needs its own notice. My plans cover notices to sites and hosts. For a TikTok link, ask me whether filing or an in-app report makes more sense.

Under 18, or the images were taken when you were under 18? Don't send them to anyone, me included. Take It Down, run by NCMEC, works from your own device: your file stays there and only a digital fingerprint is shared with participating platforms.

General information, not legal advice. I'm not a lawyer and Abolita is not a law firm. Checked against the linked sources on 6 November 2026, except TikTok's report form, which only partly loaded for my check. What I say about it comes from TikTok's copyright policy.

Quick answers

Do I have to message the uploader first?

TikTok encourages it as a quick way to settle things, but it also gives you a report form. If you don't want contact with the person, go straight to the form.

Can TikTok restore a video after a report?

Yes. An uploader can appeal with a counter-notification. Outside the EU, TikTok says content may be restored if it doesn't infringe or if no court action is reported.
