How do I remove leaked content from YouTube?
YouTube is unusual here: it has four separate routes, and the first one that often applies doesn't involve copyright at all. Its policy says explicit content meant to be sexually gratifying isn't allowed on YouTube, and it names sexualized material shared without consent, including nude photo leaks.
| What you found | Route |
|---|---|
| An explicit clip of you, or a nude photo leak | Report the video or the channel. Policy |
| Your non-explicit photos or video, re-uploaded | Copyright removal request. How to file |
| A video of you, posted without consent, or AI mimicking you | Privacy complaint. You must be uniquely identifiable in it. Process |
| A channel posing as you | Impersonation report form. Policy |
The copyright removal request
The copyright owner, or someone authorized such as an attorney, files it. For videos, YouTube offers a form in Studio, with email, fax and mail as alternatives. The request asks for your contact details, a description of the work, direct links, the good-faith and perjury statements, and your full legal name as a signature.
Three things worth knowing first:
- What the uploader sees. Your name, email and description of the work may be shared with them. YouTube says your physical address and phone number stay confidential unless a lawsuit requires them.
- Timing. You can schedule a request to take effect in 7 days, giving the uploader time to act. For a leak you'd normally leave that off.
- Copies. The Studio form has an option to prevent future copies of the same content being uploaded.
If the uploader pushes back
They can send a counter notification. YouTube then gives the claimant 10 US business days to respond with evidence of legal action, and otherwise reinstates the video. Here's what that means for you.
The Copyright Match Tool
This tool finds matches of videos you uploaded to YouTube, but it may not scan if you weren't first to upload. A match doesn't automatically mean infringement, so review each one. If you don't post to YouTube at all, it won't help you.
My plans list DMCA notices to sites and hosts. Send me the YouTube link and I'll tell you which route fits, and whether I can file it.
Under 18, or the images were taken when you were under 18? Don't send them to anyone, me included. Take It Down, run by NCMEC, works from your own device: your file stays there and only a digital fingerprint is shared with participating platforms.

Quick answers
Is a YouTube copyright request public?
Not in full, but YouTube says your name, email and description of the work may be shared with the uploader. Your physical address and phone number stay confidential unless a lawsuit requires them.
Can I report a whole channel?
Yes. YouTube's nudity and sexual content policy describes reporting a channel as well as a video. A channel set up to pose as you goes through the impersonation report form instead.
